Amazon's drone relay network has been launched in Dezhou, breaking industry records for cross-city delivery efficiency

Amazon's drone air relay delivery pilot launched in Austin, Texas, is redefining the speed standards in the logistics industry. The network consists of three smart recharge stations, covering a 150-kilometer transportation route from Houston to Austin. Drones will automatically dock at the recharge stations when they have 20% battery remaining, and the robotic arm can complete battery replacement within 90 seconds, without any human intervention throughout the process.
Test data shows that the cross-city delivery time for small items weighing less than 5 pounds has been shortened from 4 hours with traditional truck transportation to 1.6 hours, and the punctuality rate under extreme weather conditions remains at 92%. John Brown, Vice President of Amazon Global Logistics, revealed: "The system adopts dynamic route planning, which can avoid risk factors such as thunderstorms and bird migration in real time. The transportation cost is reduced by 35% compared to trucks, and carbon emissions are reduced by 68%."
Currently, the pilot area has covered 120,000 users, with an average of 300 deliveries completed daily. The main categories include medical supplies, electronic products, and emergency spare parts. Sarah Miller, one of the interviewed users, said, "Last week, the asthma inhaler I ordered for my son was delivered to my doorstep in 1 hour and 20 minutes after being shipped from the warehouse in Houston, which was unimaginable before." Amazon plans to expand this model to 10 states in the United States by 2026, with the goal of covering 30% of cross-city small-item orders. By then, more than 500 supply stations and 2,000 dedicated drones will be deployed.
